All About WordPress

WordPRessWordPress started in 2003 with a single bit of code to enhance the typography of everyday writing and with fewer users than you can count on your fingers and toes.

Since then WordPress has grown to be the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world, used on millions of sites and seen by tens of millions of people every day.

WordPress started as just a blogging system, but has evolved to be used as full content management system and so much more through the thousands of plugins, widgets, and themes, WordPress is limited only by your imagination. (And tech chops.)

WordPress is an open source blog tool and publishing platform powered by PHP and MySQL. It’s often customized into a Content Management System (CMS) or the new up and coming word is “Blogsite”.  It has a lot features including a plug-in architecture and a template system.

WordPress is web based software you can use to create a beautiful website or blog or Blogsites. People like to say that WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time and of course I totally agree!

The core software is built by hundreds of community volunteers, and when ever you’re ready for more there are thousands of plugins (miss geek here loves plugins) and themes available to transform your site into almost anything you can imagine.

Over 25 million people (and this just keeps climbing) have chosen WordPress to power the place on the web they call “home” — we’d love you to join the family.

WordPress has a web template system using a template processor. Users can re-arrange widgets without editing PHP or HTML code; they can also install and switch between themes. The PHP and HTML code in themes can also be edited for more advanced customizations.

WordPress also features integrated link management; a search engine-friendly, clean permalink structure; the ability to assign nested, multiple categories to articles; and support for tagging of posts and articles.

So as you can see WordPress is only 8 years old and is used by over 14% of the 1,000,000 biggest websites.
